High School Musical

Another thing my mom did right is that she took us to musicals, and plays and the ballet . . . well, we went to the Nutcracker but that counts right?? We went to musicals the most and I grew up loving them. The music, the costumes, the dancing . . . I LOVE IT ALL!!

My kids have grown up going to musicals and watching the movie versions. The summer we moved back to Texas that was all we watched. Sadly, I must report that West Side Story was not a favorite among the Rodgers children. When they do like one I try my best to get the soundtrack and then we listen to it in the car until we are sick of it.

I tell you all of this because we just rented HSM3 from Netflix and along with the first two, I love it! I love all three because the music is fun and original, and the dancing is really really good. Yes, I know the storylines are silly and similar but I can forgive that because 1~ their focus audience is 10 year old girls and 2~they filmed #2 in St. George so I can look at the red rocks while Gabriella and Troy kiss on the golf course. The prom number is my favorite in #3. Here is a shortened version, the introduction is in German.

I was suprised when Dresden loved the first HSM and thought it must have been a fluke, but when the second and third came out he loved them just as much. I was glad to have an excuse to take Dresden to the movie so that I could see it too. :)

My daughter 13, loves all the HSM movies. I was wondering if you would mind giving me your opinion about another musical...Do you like the movie version of Hairspray? How about your kids? Thanks!

We are big fans of Hairspray. Queen Latifa is awesome and I love the big groups of dancers. Again, great great choreography! I think it is a little too mature for my younger kids but most of the mature subject matter goes over their heads and they haven't been that into it anyway. If I had a 13 year old, I think I would watch it by myself first. You'll know best what your 13 year old is ready for. Good luck!

Thanks so much! I like that your opinion includes me sitting down and watching a movie ...by myself! Haven't done that in 20 years. Woo Hoo. I think I will even pop some corn and crack open a diet Dr. Pepper. Thanks for your blog...I read it everyday. You seem like a normal mom to me (that is a very good thing). Just raising your kids the best you can...doing what is right and not trying to be a trend setter - or hip on everthing. Thank You!
