To chronicle my sometimes interesting experiences, deep and intriguing thoughts and accomplishments, such as they are. Mostly so I don't feel guilty that I don't keep a journal.

Great Kids!
Last week Robin and Paul were working with one of the bosses at Doc's Pizza, Tim. They had been spring cleaning over the week and there was one very dirty job left. Paul got it done and did really well. At the end of the night Tim went on and on about what hard workers they were and how much he appreciated them and that he was going to talk to the big boss about getting Paul a raise.
Yesterday at school the son Tim told Paul that his dad had been telling him about Robin and Paul and said, "I wish Mitt Romney was going to be president, Mormons are the hardest workers I've ever met."

Netflix

We've been very busy with end of the school year activities so our movie watching has been slower the past month. This is what we've watched.
P.S. I Love You~ Robin and I watched it, the two Pauls were out of here before the opening credits were over. We liked it but we probably won't watch it again.
Shanghai Noon~ I hadn't seen this in years. I just love Owen Wilson. We own Shanghai Knights but not this one. I think I like this one better. Best line: "Where'd you get this guy anyway?!" "Texas" (smack) "Are you crazy?!!"

Can't Buy Me Love~ This came out when I was in high school. It has a very young Patrick Dempsey. (I knew I had seen him before!) It was okay, a little racy. I sent it back before my teenagers could watch it.
Water Horse Legend of the Deep~ A really good adventure for Dan and Sara. It was pretty too. I liked it.
Night Crossing~ We watched this on T.V. with Dad. It is about a family escaping to West Germany. I remember it being much more exciting and the acting was baa-aad but it was a very courageous and true story and it shows what people were feeling in the cold war.

I also ordered a few episodes of 21 Jump Street. Johnny Depp is so cute!

Mission Call
Dan's invite
For Dan's birthday party we are having a decathlon of sorts; Stanley Cup types of competitions. We did a smaller version of this last year and it was such a hit we're doing it again, just a little bigger and a little better.

Leadership

Obama called on the United States to "lead by example" on global warming, and develop new technologies at home which could be exported to developing countries.
"We can't drive our SUVs and eat as much as we want and keep our homes on 72 degrees at all times ... and then just expect that other countries are going to say OK," Obama said.
"That's not leadership. That's not going to happen," he added.

Guest Blogger: Robin- Light My Fire

So today during second period the juniors were all called down to the Auditorium to get our briefing on Senior pictures. Some representatives from Prestige (the photographing company our yearbook staff works with) came to tell us what we needed to do this summer to ensure our spot in next year's yearbook. They also took this opportunity to advertise what they had to offer for our casual senior photos that we would send to relatives and whatnot.
The subject of what props we could bring came up during this Q&A session. One of my favorites was covered before anyone needed to ask. I should have seen it coming, I mean this is East Texas. The Prestige lady assured us, "You can bring your rifles but I would request that you bring it unloaded and you give us a heads up."
Later on in the discussion they showed us a young man's senior picture. In it, he held a baseball which was on fire.
Prestige Lady: Now we actually light these on fire. This isn't photoshopped. So don't bring something you particularly care about that you want on fire in the picture.
Kid in the back: Can we light our selves on fire?
Prestige Lady: We've had this come up before, but no. You cannot light yourselves on fire. Also no animals.

Runts and Mother's Day

Just before our Josh was born my mom came out to Ft. Hood so that she could help during the last few days of the pregnancy and the first few days of new baby chaos. Sigh . . . There are few things better than mom showing up at times like that.
I had recently purchased a giant bag of Runts at Sam's Club and I had displayed them in a big glass bowl on top of the refrigerator. It was so pretty. One night when mom was there, I opened the fridge and 5lbs. of Runts as well as the bowl came crashing to the floor. Mom volunteered to clean up and sent me out of the kitchen. She closed the door to keep little Paul and Robin out and started sweeping up the mess.
She had been in there for about 10 minutes and I could still hear her sweeping. I opened the door to see if everything was okay. She looked up, smiled guiltily and said, "I like watching the colors rolling around the floor."
Happy Mother's Day mom, I love you.
Also, Happy Mother's Day to my sisters and sisters in law who are, this year ALL mothers on Mother's Day. Hooray us!!

Enablers

So Monday night at exactly 9:05pm Dan said, "Oh mom! I forgot I have some homework." "Well get it out and get it done." I said, in a not so cheery voice. I knew we were in trouble when I heard the next question. "Do we have any pipe cleaners?"Dan was supposed to make a figurine of Harriet Tubman with pipe cleaners and it was due Tuesday. I told him, "Too bad, I'm not going to buy pipe cleaners at 9:00pm. It will have to be late."
I bought him some pipe cleaners the next day and when he came home from school he said that our conversation (above) had been repeated in homes throughout Lindale the night before so the teacher said they could all have one more day. Way to give them standards.
Consequently, Tuesday night found me making little clothes for a figurine that I am guessing really doesn't look all that much like Harriet Tubman. (I am just assuming her head wasn't yellow and could be easily reshaped)
The best part is that I have no idea what the actual assignment is because Dan didn't bring home anything with instructions. He just described what he could remember. I just guessed that this is what the teacher wanted.
SO LAME!! The teacher, the assignment, the student and the parent. I'm not happy with anyone right now.
Awesome yoga truths . . .

So I've been doing yoga twice a week for 3 weeks now and I really like it. I am already more limber, I have a ton of extra energy and I am completely relaxed after a class; it surprises me every time.
But there is a problem . . . in every single class the teacher will say something that makes me roll my eyes or laugh out loud and I just don't know if I can get past it.
Here is the quote of the day: "We are given a choice each day. We are free to affirm our life. We are free to choose to serve and love life or not . . . right now choose deep breathing."

Tyler Rose Garden
Saturday we went to the Tyler Rose Garden. It was just breathtaking. They have hundreds of different varieties and with everything in bloom we could smell them when we were still in the parking lot. It was a lovely afternoon.I was suprised how different they smelled, some were sweet, some not so sweet, some smelled really strong and others not at all. One smelled just like a lemon.

This was my favorite variety, it's called Caribbean.

I was thinking of my niece when I saw this one, it's called Betty Boop.

This is what little boys do when they are tired of smelling roses.
